Thank God!
That phrase seems to be thrown around a lot without much thought. “Thank God I didn’t have to wait in that long line.” “Thank God I brought a sweater.” “Thank God my team won.” But we know that thanking God goes so much further than that. Not too many of us wake up in the morning thanking God that we made it to the next day. Many don’t even thank God for the basic necessities of life. He at least deserves that.
The month of November brings the all-important Thanksgiving Day; a day filled with lots of stuffing in more ways than one. But everyday should be a day of thanksgiving because our gracious God gives and gives and keeps on giving. He gives although we don’t deserve it. But the greatest gift He gave us was the sacrifice of His Son on the cross so that we would not have to suffer eternal death and separation from Himself. The Bible is filled with many reasons to thank God. The Psalmist says, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.” (Psalms 136:1)
Paul said, “But thanks be to God, who gives us victory (over death) through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor 15:57) And as we remember all the Saints this month, both living and dead, we can rejoice and give thanks to God knowing that those who have died in the Lord are very much in his care.
Thank You God for all you do for us, especially in blessing us with such a great country to live in where we have the freedom to worship You, elect people to lead us, and are able to speak freely. Paul says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God.”(1 Thess 5:18) Rejoice, pray, and give thanks. It’s that simple. If we follow His will we can be assured that God will take care of the rest.
